Welcome to Yoga for Sleep Online.

Born out of the 2020 lockdowns in Melbourne, where stress and sleeplessness were at an all-time high, these classes were designed specially to relax our nervous systems. 
Where there is stress, grief, overwhelm, and anxiousness, there is a disrupted nervous system. The longer and more frequently we stay in these states of fight or flight, the more embedded into our nervous system they become. The neural pathways deepen and create stronger connections of fight or flight. So we use Yoga for Sleep to rewire our nervous system and send cues for our body to relax, go to sleep, and stay asleep. We are creating new neural pathways so that when nighttime comes around, instead of staying in this amped-up state when it is time for us to get into our ‘Rest and Digest’ mode. This is when the body recuperates and heals. So sleep is vital. 
Yoga, the word itself, means to join, or a ‘UNION’. Finding that perfect balance between mind and body. 
Yoga tends to have a little bit of a stigma attached to it or a few different ones that keep circulating 
1. It’s all about flexibility! 
2. it is only for ‘these certain types of people, usually a little alternative that tends to flock to it. Both of these ideas couldn’t be further from the truth of Yoga. 
Yoga has a lot of scientific backing behind it, and yes of course, when you turn to do something good and natural for yourself, some other things in your life may alter to bring in you line with the path you’re trying to head towards, often being a healthy lifestyle. 
Yoga has so many facets to it; you can choose to go as deep - or not, as you like. But the overriding teaching is reconnecting the mind and body, and the vehicle Yoga uses to do so is the BREATH. 
I like to think of Yoga, as a moving meditation. Breath, postures and flow. 
In our Yoga for Sleep classes, I will guide you through postures and the breath so that we can move into the Relaxation Response as swiftly as possible. 
We also use breathwork by itself and a short meditation at the end to allow the body to integrate the practice. 40 minutes, twice a week to devote to yourself and your sleep. 
Whether you’ve had sleeping issues for years and your neural pathways have been sending these same kinds of messages for ages, or your sleeping issues are new to you, these techniques within these Yoga classes will start to trigger the relaxation response we are looking for. 
Whilst you can get some instantaneous results with this, they can take a little while to re-develop into the relaxed, calm responses that we are looking for before bedtime. 
Persistence is paramount. 
Did you know you spend a 1/3 of your life sleeping? If you lived until 90 years old, you would spend approximately 30 years of it asleep! 
Yes, our classes are only online. 
We are creating a space for you to calm down and relax; the last thing we want you to do is to drive away from a studio afterwards. 
This is done in the privacy and comfort of your own home/space. There are things around your house that you’ll be able to use as props.
